What's OH, HELLO About? Kroll, Mulaney & Timbers Explain!

So excited to be here. We're going to Broadway

We love the theater. We love the theater. We don't even get this show in Broadway

You know what I mean? Because, look, Oh Hello in Broadway is a love letter to theater

Yeah, in that it is a stalker's note, scrolled in lipstick on a wall

We're huge Broadway fans and huge theater fans. We obviously come from the comedy world, but we wanted to bring a show that wasn't just two comedians doing a show

We wanted to bring a real play written from the heart and the loins of these two men in their 70s, Gil Faison and George St. Eagle

Yeah, I agree with John. But to think that our show is about us losing our rent control department, we've been paying $75 a month

For 40 years And for no good reason without inflation or just a general process of life they raise our rent

I mean, they want us to pay thousands of dollars for a measly three-bedroom with a molding office and fireplace on 73rd Street

It's a play about the things that we love and hate about the shows that we all go to see

and it's a play about friendship and both, I think... And dandruff

And dandruff and band-aids on hands. Yeah. And it's a play about..

It's a play about early doctor's appointments. It's a play about where you don't wear a tie

instead you just wear a turquoise bolo. It's a play about the last little bit of hummus

that's at the bottom of the tub that you've got to use your fingers to scoop out. It's a play about when you open a yogurt

and there's a little bit of water on top of the yogurt and you go, where did that water come from

Well, you know that we hired the acclaimed Broadway director, Mr. Alex Timbers

We met years ago during litigation obviously genius behind Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and we had a musical called Bloody Bloody Tito Jackson

That's the point. Bloody Bloody Tito Jackson was about his story. It was a by the sun story. Oh Hello is the comedians

Nick Kroll and John Mulaney playing these 70-something 70-something Upper West Siders who've been friends for life and who share an apartment

And I feel like the show is, you know, one's an actor, one's a writer

and between the two of them, it's a sort of Valentine for Broadway

Alex has a very clear, amazing vision and incredible vocabulary for theater

both in how to stage it and how to make it breathe and live and be vital

which is sort of the opposite of what George and Gil are. George and Gil didn realize they couldn just have their backs to the audience for most of them Yeah they wanted to Miles Davis the whole show Yeah and face upstage seated George and Gil are mothballs Yeah And Alex is a breath of fresh air And so it seems to

be that the combination of George and Gil's obstinance and Alex's vitality have led to

something that's like a tuna sandwich. Delicious, but smells horrible. Yeah. It's such an important show

It's quite a bit of money. It's so deeply important to us

It's our love letter. It's our love letter to theater. It's our love letter to New York

It's important. It's an important play. And we are, you know, it's time that the theater world

heard from two white men. We're just happy to bring that perspective. Yeah
