It's too much. The whole thing is too much. But it's so exciting. What a thrill to be
0:13
back here. I adore this city and I adore this show and getting to be part of this community
0:20
at an event like this. I talk about it a lot, but Broadway and community is extraordinary
0:27
and the way that everyone supports each other and has each other's backs. And the fact that
0:32
when I go for dinner between shows, the other day I was having some sushi opposite the cast
0:37
of Enemy of the People. It's glorious that. It's really special and I don't take that
0:44
for granted. And what this nomination means to you for the MC and cabaret? Gosh. So this
0:51
whole piece has been something that I've been woven into for so many years of my life
0:58
and I never thought that I would get to do in the West End. The fact that we're doing it here and the fact that it's been recognized across the board here is so wonderful. I hope
1:09
what we're trying to do is tell cabaret for the now. There's a sort of urgency to it and
1:19
I've seen so many beautiful productions of cabaret and I hope ours is a new investigation
1:26
into it and is seen that way. Getting to know John Kander because Joe Mastroff has left
1:32
us and Fred Ebb of course, but meeting John Kander and having him talk to you, what that's
1:36
meant to you? It was immense. It's the idea that these songs came from his brain. It's
1:45
too much to compute really, but the first time we had an email, we'd been pen pals for
1:50
a while from when I was doing the show in London and he's always been so supportive
1:54
But then when he came on this extraordinary evening, Joel Grey's 92nd birthday and I got
1:58
to meet him, getting to meet your heroes but in front of a thousand people on stage is
2:04
pretty overwhelming. But he is such a gracious, kind man and feels so behind our take on his
2:15
piece and the fact that what makes great work is work that can be reinterpreted and
2:21
have new breath and new takes and can be pulled around to hold a mirror up to where we are
2:30
and he's been so supportive. My final question is, everybody's here, Broadway is a community
2:35
like you said, you can go anywhere. Who do you hope to bump into today and why? Oh gosh
2:39
who do I hope to bump into? Well, Jeremy Strong is an old pal. I've known him for 20 years
2:46
and I went to see him in Enemy of the People and that whole production I just thought was so
2:51
beautiful and gosh, there are so many people that I get to meet. I got to meet Rachel McAdams
2:59
who I've been a huge fan of for many years. But the annoying thing about us is we never get to
3:04
see other people's shows unless I got to see a couple while I was in rehearsal. So now all I
3:09
hear is the whispers of brilliance
