Hello, I'm Richard Ridge for Broadway World. The new Jimmy Buffett musical, Escape to Margaritaville, will open here at the Marquee Theater on March 15th
0:08
And we drop by to bring you a sneak peek and to meet the company. And the reason that we're standing in this room together, the indomitable Jimmy Buffett
0:16
The writers have done, and what Greg and Mike and what you have done, is put together a group of songs that a lot of them are traditional to my following and my fans
0:28
but other things you put in here I never thought would be in the show
0:32
and are working in ways that I never even conceived of when I composed
0:58
Just a few good friends It's a story about a guy who works in a beach bar
1:07
who knows how to live life in the moment and a woman who wants to change the world
1:12
and watching them teach each other, find love now, and also make sure your life matters
1:18
People are going to party hard and they're going to have a great time. This is a great show
1:24
Our set just kind of explodes at you, as does the show
1:28
I think that it gives you everything you want. Obviously you had to have
1:32
Margaritaville, you had to have Finns, and you had to have Cheeseburger And so I think we knew that at the beginning those three songs had to be in there you know i think one of the things we wanted to make sure from the beginning uh is that these songs when they sung they not just shoehorned in there you know i mean that
1:51
was uh one thing that was very important to us that people would just seamlessly these songs fit
1:57
in the story that we're telling of any musical that you go see normally people do not encourage
2:02
you to sing along even if you do know the music people would look at you like what are you doing
2:07
but in this show you can kind of sing along What do you hope audiences take away
2:38
I hope they take away the good sort of goodwill that he puts out there
2:43
about sort of seizing the moment, living in the moment, living your truth, and being relaxed enough to be able to enjoy
2:52
A lot of times you do a show and you're in the run of it and sometimes you're having a bad day and you come to the theater
2:57
and it is impossible to stay in a bad mood when you're here and around these people and this cast and on this set and doing the show
3:05
Whenever you do these things, you're like, oh, we're having so much fun and everybody's so great
3:09
But that really is the case. We really are goofing around all the time in a productive way
3:16
But I think that starts at the top from Jimmy's sort of laissez-faire kind of lifestyle
3:20
and I think we've all embraced that
