Hello, I'm Richard Ridge for Broadway World, and I'm sitting with Mark William, who is returning to the Green Room 42 with this critically acclaimed, sold-out show called Mark William, Come Croom With Me
0:11
It's a special Tony Award edition on Friday evening, June 7th. Welcome
0:16
Thank you. How exciting. We're sitting in the Tony Award suite at the Sopatel
0:20
I know. It's so exciting. There's a Tony Award sitting next to me, and it's very cool. So tell us about this new version of your show or the new one that's happening on Friday, June 7th
0:28
Sure. So this will be the fourth time I've done my show, but this time since it's the Friday before the Tonys, I thought let's make it a special Tony Awards edition
0:38
So we're putting together a big Tony Awards medley and throwing in some tidbits throughout the show, just informing people who might not know or who might be interested in the relations of the Tony Awards with the stuff that I'm doing
0:55
It must be very exciting just for sitting in this room as you look around with all the Tony memorabilia
1:01
There's lots of song choices to go into a medley, isn't there? Oh, yes
1:05
I mean, the Tonys started giving a Best Musical Award in 59, and the awards themselves started in 57
1:12
So there's decades and decades of shows that have fabulous scores and some really classic songs and some new classic songs in recent years and things that I would love to share with people
1:28
So just like, take us a little bit through the show. I mean, it's a combination of what, The Great American Songbook and Broadway
1:34
Tell us. Yes. So my inspiration comes from people like Frank Sinatra and Steve Lawrence and Jack Jones
1:44
And I sing some stuff that is of their era, whether it's standard stuff or stuff from
1:51
Broadway that may have gone beyond. And I also come more recent and take some songs from Broadway and other places that you might not think of as being a crooner kind of song but I interpret them in that way and
2:12
really enjoy kind of turning things into something new. Yeah, you know, as we're sitting here right behind us is a gorgeous picture of Hugh Jackman
2:20
And of course, on the Tony Awards, and of course Hugh Jackman was on Broadway playing the one and only Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz, for which he won his Tony Award for
2:28
Now you do some Peter Allen stuff in the show, don't you? I do, yeah
2:31
I've become a big fan of Peter Allen between his popular music and Legs Diamond and obviously Hugh's performance in Boy From Oz
2:45
So I have a few songs from Peter Allen that I do
2:49
What do you enjoy the most about appearing live in front of an audience with your nightclub act
2:55
I think the way that it's different every time because it's all about the interaction between the artist and the audience
3:03
especially in a nightclub because you're so close and you literally can talk to the audience directly
3:10
and that's very cool and just being able to feel the reaction
3:16
of when I'm singing a song and having their reaction affect me
3:22
and changing my reaction to get back to them. It's just a very cool feeling and experience
3:29
Yeah, I love that you have some of the greatest songwriters of The Great American or The Great American Songbook
3:34
and you also have some of the greatest composers of Broadway as we're going into the Tony Awards on June 9th
3:39
Absolutely. Yeah. It ranges from Peter Allen to Jerry Herman to Cy Coleman and Walter Marks, Walter Marks
3:50
Some more you know more contemporary people like Maury Yeston There a lot There a good group in there Well like I said people have got to come and see this So it Friday June 7th at the Green Room 42 which is located in the Yotel which is on 42nd and 10th Avenue on the fourth floor
4:07
And people can buy tickets. I think you go to www. TheGreenRoom42.com
4:13
Well, first of all, thanks for stopping by the Tony Award suite today. Absolutely. And we'll see you all on June 7th
4:18
Thank you. You're welcome. Next up is a very special arrangement of one of Jerry's many enduring classics
4:31
Put on your Sunday clothes. There's lots of world out there. Get out the brilliant teen and dime cigars
4:43

4:52
Girls in white in a perfume night Where the lights are bright as the stars
4:59
But on your Sunday clothes We're gonna ride through town In one of those new horse-drawn open cars
5:11
We'll see the shows I tell Money goes and we'll close The town and a world
5:19
And we won't come home Until we've kissed a girl But on your Sunday clothes
5:28
When you feel down and out Struck down the street And have your picture too
5:37
It's like the dream your spirits sing The turmoil That someday shine is a certain sign
5:47
That you feel as right as you look If your parents all the world is All a smile Make your new friend down to your toes
6:03
Get out your feathers, your hat, glitters, your beads, buckles and blows
6:10
But there's no blue Monday in your Sunday clothes Out there
6:21
There's a world outside of Yonkers Close your eyes and see it
6:26
Listen, wannabe Listen, wannabe Out there Full of shine and full of sparkle
6:35
Close your eyes and see it Listen, wannabe Listen, wannabe Listen, wannabe
6:44
All aboard In town we'll trot to a smoky spot where the girls are hot as a blues
7:16
But on your high silk hat and a turnt of gun. We're a hand-made raceway, but we won't
7:27
We'll join the Astros and Tony Bastos and miss a positive one
7:33
That we won't come home. No, we won't come home. No, we won't come home until we fall in love
