Hi there, it's Eugene Ebner with Broadway World Cabaret
0:04
I'm at Shuttler Studios in the heart of New York City with cabaret performer Hannah Jane Peterson
0:09
and Miss Director extraordinaire Coco Cone. How are we doing, ladies? Great
0:16
We had a good rehearsal. We just had a rehearsal. You have a show at Don't Tell Mama on Saturday, December 15th at 5.30 p.m
0:24
Be there. We can't wait. I just recently met you at KT Sullivan's
0:30
She raves about you and your voice, and I actually got to hear you that night at the piano with John Webber, who's your musical director
0:39
Yes, he is. Now, how did this show come about? I won the Mabel's Babies competition in February of last year, and I showed up to one of KT's shows the following weeks
0:51
and I sang afterwards at her house, and she comes up to me after, and she said
0:55
It's time for the world to see Hannah Peterson. I want you to do your own show downstairs at the Lori Beachman I send you some dates And that all that happened So fast that a testament to anyone watching showing up pays off yeah I think Woody Allen said something
1:14
about half of life or 80% of life is just showing up yeah I actually posted
1:19
that quote oh is it did I have the right person my mother I'm like I'm not sure who said it no you were totally correct but KT is such a cheerleader of
1:29
And she loves young talent and she has been so invested in seeing and nurturing this piece
1:35
Yeah, it's been amazing. I came in later. Well, how did you connect
1:39
You want to tell her you want me to tell it? Sure you tell it. It's a good story
1:44
So I actually hadn't lived here yet when I met Coco for the first time. We came on a school trip
1:49
We were seeing Mamma Mia and this lovely lady was starring as Rosie taking over Broadway and
1:57
And I decided to stage Dorit after and she came out with a big old flower a little red one on her shirt and I had a big red flower in my hair And she was like I love your flower And we started talking and I spieled my seconds spiel I moving here I going to be on Broadway this is my dream all of that
2:15
And a couple years later we moved here and we lived here and I was auditioning for a
2:19
kid's cabaret with a class act. And I walk in the room and she's behind the table
2:24
I remember you and the thing in your hair. Yeah, and I was like, oh my gosh, you remember me
2:29
What do we have static electricity that's hitting my head? So I said we should move the jazz
2:35
That's all right. You're a little halo. Sorry to interrupt that. Good story
2:40
I love it. Yeah, so we met, and I started doing these cabarets where she was directing them
2:44
and then I started helping her backstage. She became my stage manager. I became my stage manager, and we just kept getting close
2:50
So you created a bond. Now, speaking of this show, On My Way, tell us a little bit about it
2:55
Why should they come to see you? Besides the fact that you have a fabulous voice, what's the show about
2:59
I think this show is about my journey so far and discovering who I am as a performer
3:05
and where I've come since I moved to New York and about where I want to be
3:10
In the cabaret world and the Broadway world there a little bit of everything in this show that shows a little versatility So I think people should come and it just to have a good time and to get to know me as a person versus going to see a show
3:22
It's really personal, yeah. And that's what our goal was, is to make it so you get to know me
3:27
I like what you're saying because for me, when I go to a show or when I perform myself, it's being able to share part of who you are
3:34
Yeah, and that's really important. Because the whole life experience is a journey, especially when we're creative beings and we stand out and say, I'm on my way or here I am. Absolutely
3:43
Watch out world. Yeah. And it's extremely authentic. Yeah. It's vulnerable and authentic, and I think those are the two most important things you can bring to a cabaret show
3:51
I agree. I agree. Well, I can't wait to attend. Yay! I'm so happy to come
3:56
And to see you shine and to see your expertise. Yes. And to hear the playing and the arrangements of John Weber
4:04
and again we want to thank KT Sullivan for uniting all of us together and hi mom
4:09
thank you so much and we'll see you on the 15th Hannah Jane Peterson post
