Hello, my name is Ajabola Tajadeen, which you can call me Kimi
0:14
And today you're watching Conversations with Kimi, a show where we ask stuff and we make stuff
0:19
Today my guest is our first world-renowned guest that we've had on this show in season 2
0:24
Please help me in welcoming Mother Christmas, also known as Miss Claus
0:28
Yes! Oh, thank you. Okay, I think that's good now. Thanks, Candy Winsmore. Thank you
0:33
Hey, Ms. Claus. I heard you were running for mayor. Who was that? Oh, that's my campaign manager, Candy Winsmore. Yeah, she's great
0:41
Okay, Ms. Claus. So why are you running for mayor? Well, you know, we've had a mayor at the North Pole, Jack Frost, for, wow, I think over a hundred years
0:51
And, yeah, I think he started out okay. But then things got really rough
0:55
and I don't know what happened to him. He got really chilly, and we think it's time for a new wave
1:01
especially since there's a lot of women running for office now. I thought, this is my time
1:06
Maybe you should take off your gloves, Ms. Claus. Oh, you're right. That probably has found me much better
1:11
You want to help me with that one? Thanks. Oh, you're a good boy. You won't get cold this year. Why did you and Mr. Santa Claus meet
1:17
He wasn't Mr. Santa Claus when I met him. He'll tell you that. I helped make him
1:23
I was a schoolteacher. you know, there's stories out there about that, so you can Google that. But I was a
1:29
school teacher and, you know, we just kind of fell in love like normal people fall in
1:33
love and then, you know, it became obvious that he had a much bigger calling and I was
1:37
super happy to help him with all of that So then we became a team you know and I do get a lot of credit and I not asking for credit but you know I think nowadays you need to know that there a lot of women that help men
1:50
and that help women become stars. Can we get a close-up on your outfit, Ms. Claus
1:55
Who's your designer? Oh, thank you. Actually, it's a drag queen. His name is Drew Mancuso
2:01
He's no longer with us. He was Sassy Sambuco, and he actually helped me make this entire outfit
2:06
I do little things on it now and then, But you know, I've been super happy to have a designer like that
2:13
What made you want to run for the Red and Green Party? That's really the party that we founded
2:18
So it's a very new party. But, you know, as opposed to the Frosty White Party, which is what Jack Frost is a part of
2:27
we thought that the Red and Green Party really was very inclusive, included all sorts of people, including elves and, you know, some of the animals at the North Pole
2:35
And it was just time for a little bit of a change. We really wanted it to be a little more welcoming party
2:41
Wow. So, Miss Claus will be in our holiday show this year on December 15th and 16th
2:46
Make sure you come see us at FTC, Fairfield Theater Company, in Fairfield. And you'll get to see me running for office, running for mayor, right there in front of you
2:54
You might see a little sneak peek of me, too. Yeah. You're an elf in this one
2:59
What's your favorite holiday tradition with Mr. Claus? Oh, my goodness. Well, you know, the whole thing is about holidays for us
3:06
So our favorite holiday tradition is when it's over, we go someplace nice and sunny and warm
3:11
We go to Minnesota. So that, you know, is a really nice break for us
3:15
What made you want to reinvent yourself every year with NPT? I think that it's not even just NPT, New Paradigm Theater Company
3:23
I not sure it just that I think everyone should reinvent themselves especially women right now Sorry I keep doing that but you know that what I do I think you got to keep coming up with new angles
3:34
I think you've got to, after a hundred-some years or so, I think you've got to make sure that you're not just somebody's helper
3:40
that you're going out and you're making the world a better place, you know? And I like that, and I certainly have the support of my wonderful husband
3:47
Actually, I think he likes me to get out of his hair every now and then, or out of his beard
3:51
You know, but yeah, I enjoy making new things up. You know, one time when we were doing the cabaret together, Mr. Claus and I, and I think he, oh, too much for him
4:02
I think he's got a lot on his plate, so now everything I do, I sort of do on my own. Ms. Claus, what would you say to young elves who want to lead up here in the Gulf Bowl
4:10
Oh, I just think they should do it, you know. I love it when the elves come to me with new ideas, like web shows and stuff like that, you know
4:16
And I think that you've got to create your own. You gotta say, I got an idea, and it could be crazy
4:22
It could be super crazy, but, you know, I'm generally going to champion anybody who's got a good idea
4:27
especially if it's going to make the community better. Wow. Okay, can we show our cookies, Ms. Close
4:32
I guess so, sure. I'm doing my own. I don't want to. All right
4:37
Don't matter if you're black or white or green. You want to do my song with me
4:43
Ready? It's close to the Z, not close to the A. No, not A
4:47
Oh, sorry. It's Claus with a Z, not Claus with an S Cause Claus with an S goes
4:52
It's Z instead of S Claus instead of Claus Simply be T, Miss Claus
4:57
You're very cute, man Cool, right away Did I get it on there
5:04
No, that's on the blooper reel Okay, good Well thank you so much for joining us here on Conversations with Kimi I hope you guys enjoyed the episode here with Miss Claus But Zuh Claus Zuh Claus Miss Claus
5:18
And remember, your voice is your power. So use it. Kimi out. Miss Claus, how old are you
5:30
She's not going to answer that question. Oh, my goodness. Oh, no, no, thank you. I didn't even think to ask that
5:34
I was going to say, like, 100 years older or something. I don't know. And we're making the cookies and oh my goodness
5:41
She's breaking the props! I thought they were our creations. I was like..
5:48
Oh, snickerdoodles! Oh, I'm so sorry. I don't usually cuss. So, Miss..
5:54
Miss Claus, where do you get your glasses from? Oh, I'm glad you noticed
5:59
I noticed you have some really nice glasses too. Oh, um, I, uh, one of the elves actually, they spends, um, some time putting on, on the, um, the, I can't, I'm so sorry I can't concentrate on you doing that, but thank you, I really appreciate it
6:15
What colors are you using? Well, I have an all, I should have probably put other colors on here
6:20
This one's all chocolate, but I do like chocolate. Yeah, no, that works. I just can't put it
6:24
Who are you? What are you doing in my kitchen? Um. Conversations with Kimi is produced with support from the Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency
