Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
0:07
Cheerie-o, here I go on my way. Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
0:15
Not a tear, but a cheer make it gay. Give me a smile I can keep all the while in my heart while I'm away
0:28
Until we meet once again, you and I. Good evening and welcome to Broadway World TV
0:34
I'm Michael Sterling, and we're coming to you from the Los Angeles Music Center
0:38
the Amundsen Theater, as a matter of fact. And we are here to see the opening of Dame Edna Everidge
0:44
the glorious goodbye, the farewell tour. And it goes up in just a little bit, but in the interim, we're on the red carpet
0:52
And we're going to share with you some of the experiences that the celebrities are having here this evening
0:56
coming to see the Great Dame. So don't go away. We'll be right back
1:01
Until we meet once again, you and I. You wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
1:11
I'm standing here with the beautiful Anne Jeffries. And good evening. How are you
1:16
Are you a fan of Dame Edna? Have you seen her before? No, I never have
1:20
That's one reason I rushed here tonight to see him. Really? Because his wife invited me, so
1:26
It's like nothing you've ever seen before. I promise you. Hold on to your seat, too, because anything can happen during this show
1:33
Really? Okay. You look always so red carpet perfect whenever we talk to you
1:39
You're welcome. Beautiful Red. We're going to let you go in and relax before you see the show
1:44
Thanks for stopping by. My pleasure. Mark and Christina, of course, you know them from the morning show
1:49
How are you guys? We're good. We're out on a school night
1:53
We're out on a school night. We just came from home and family. That's our show. and we just left and fought the traffic
1:58
to come down here to see her. She was on our show last week. Totally amazing, and we didn't want to miss it
2:02
while she was here. Have you ever seen her in concert? Oh, yeah. Well back in the 80s when I lived in New York I seen her in London and now we get to see her in L I never seen her I not seen her in concert You in for a tree I know You in for a tree I don think yes Did you get enough of it on the show the other day
2:17
I got too much of it on the show. You have to, in the theater, you have to kind of hold onto your seat. Yeah, I know. I know. Home or C
2:25
This man needs no introduction. Michael Feinstein is with us here at Dame Edna's opening night. Michael
2:31
I heard you say that you were a good friend of Dame Edna. Yes. And her manager, Barry Humphrey
2:36
And how long is that relationship been going on? I met Dame Edna actually the same night that I met Barry Humphreys, 1992
2:43
I was on the tonight show, Thanksgiving, and during the break, Dame Edna said
2:48
you know a friend of mine. And I said, who? And she said, Roddy McDowell
2:54
I said, oh, well, I happen to be going there for Thanksgiving tonight. And she said, well, you'll meet my manager, Mr. Humphreys there
2:59
So later that night, I met Barry Humphreys. So I met both of them the same night, and I've been friendly with both ever since
3:06
Amazing. How would you describe for people that have not yet seen Dame Edna? Give a little description of what they can expect to see if they buy a ticket
3:15
Dame Edna is a brilliant, brilliant entertainer. It is a very interactive show, and she calls it like she sees it, and she has a very skewed, purple-colored glasses sort of view of the world
3:30
Absolutely one of the most brilliant, funny, and insightful shows I have ever experienced. And I include Shane
3:36
Experian Eugene O'Neill in that description. Quite an endorsement. Absolutely. This is a show not to be missed by anybody
3:43
You heard it here first. So take this man's work for it. And I've seen her many times, so I concur
3:50
Michael, thanks for stopping by Broadway World TV. Pleasure to see you. Is there anything you wish you hadn't eaten
3:58
Do you see a woman behind a desk at the White House as opposed to humble a desk at the heart
4:03
When did you first know you're Canadian? I love it when you're part of the Red Sea
4:15
You looking at my Red Sea now You won be parting that pot This is an evening of legends And this lovely beautiful young woman is Mrs Jean Kelly Patricia Kelly
4:28
Welcome to the Amundsen Theatre and Dame Edna. This is an incredible night. And, you know, it's sad because you hate to say goodbye
4:34
But I think it's really nice when a terrific pro like Dame Edna decides it's time to bow out and gives that gift to our audiences
4:44
Do you think it's really going to be the last tour? I have a feeling that it might be with her
4:50
It really might be. I mean, Jean was very adamant about that. It was like when you bow out, you bow out
4:57
Go out on top. Yeah, you go out when you're still hitting all those marks
5:00
and everybody wants to see more and everybody remembers you a certain way. Absolutely
5:05
Absolutely. How long, now you've seen him many times in the past? I actually have only seen him
5:11
I've only seen Barry. Okay, really? Yeah, so this is my first time to see Dame Medina
5:16
Hold on. It's going to be a bumpy night, I assure you. Yes, I think it'll be great
5:21
And I'm with Michael Feinstein and other friends, so it'll be really nice to share this tonight
5:26
We look forward to seeing you at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal. I can't wait. I love Sterling's upstairs at the Federal
5:32
And it's a perfect. Gene actually died on February 2nd, and that'll be the night that I'm coming to see the Jerome Kern tribute
5:39
And he was such a fan of Jerome Kern and so many of the songs that long ago and far away
5:45
and things we really remember him for. So that'll be a really special way to be with friends that night
5:53
We're going to let you be with Michael and your other friends here and enjoy yourself
5:58
I'll see you Monday. Jim Piddick. You know him, of course, from television and motion pictures
6:02
And I heard you say down the line there, you're at aficionado of Dame Edna
6:06
Absolutely, yeah, I've been watching the show for 35, 40 years. I first saw Dame Edna in the early 70s when I was a student and became a
6:15
became one of my icons. I mean, it's a... Does Dame Edna know that? I don't think so. I've never actually met Barry Humphrey's in person, and that would be..
6:24
I don't know if that would be a wonderful thing or really a shatter all illusions
6:28
Do you think this is really the farewell tour Well as I said just now I think it could be the au revoir tour so it we see The one thing we know for sure is that it going to be a fantastic evening right
6:40
Oh, it never fails to be so. I mean, he's an extraordinary performer, and I'm kind of almost jealous of people who are coming here for the first time and never seen it before
6:49
because it really is an extraordinary, extraordinary performance. We're going to let you go in, relax, enjoy yourself
6:56
Thank you. one of our great stars at musical theater, and, of course, one of our great actors
7:00
Very Bostwick. Well, thank you. Yes, indeed. It's great to see you again. It's only been how many years
7:06
Well, we see each other occasionally, but this is where we first met it
7:10
This is exactly what I was going to say. Hires of Penn Zanzance with Andy Gibb, Pam Dauber, and Barry Bostwick
7:16
Yeah, that's right. God. That was a long time? Yeah, how long ago was that
7:21
You know, in the mid-80s? Was it in the mid-80s? Yeah, I couldn't do it now
7:26
It's too much work. I'll let Barry Humphreys do it. He's the best at it
7:32
Well, talking about Barry Humphreys, aka Dame Edna, as we well know, you're a big fan, I hear it
7:38
Oh, I'm a big, big, huge fan of his. And I've seen probably every incarnation of his shows
7:44
And I wish I could do what he does. I think every actor wishes they had that kind of verve and spontaneity and life and sense of humor
7:56
wit. He's just so witty. He is. Anything can happen. Anything can happen. Yeah, and that's what's
8:02
great about it. And you know what? Maybe anything happens every night
8:06
the same way. Who knows? But you get the feeling when you're in there that
8:10
it's for the first time. You know, and that's really just what it's all about
8:14
Listen, thank you for stopping by Broadway World TV. It's so nice to see you again, sir
8:18
Have a nice evening. Thank you. I'll be in there with you
