Hi there. I am Katie Lynch for Broadway World here at Gibney Studios where the hit Broadway revival of Miss Saigon is hitting the road, and we are going to get a sneak peek of the first national tour
0:10
Just sell your soul that you gave the American Dream. Say, can you see Land of the Free
0:25
Sure can. Soon you will buy it for me. The American dream, dream
0:32
I'm amazed at the amount of talent that I'm with in this US tour
0:38
Every day I'm just like amazing. Like Anthony Festa and Emily Bautista are just absolutely amazing
0:44
And like the ensemble is just top notch. And so like people can just..
0:51
You're just going to be floored, I promise you. Like even me, I'm in the show and I'm just like, man, that's amazing
0:58
You know, I've been doing the show 30 years, if you can believe it
1:02
I worked on the original, and I keep coming back and doing new tours, new New York companies
1:09
I've done it around the world. And every time I do it, I love it
1:14
And it's great to see the new cast and see how young and talented they are
1:19
It's very thrilling for me. And I love the show. It's a beautiful show
1:23
And I think this is a story about a civilian who is affected by that war
1:29
and who finds herself in love with an American service officer who is simply just there to fight for a cause
1:37
without him really understanding why he's there. And they're tragically pulled apart in a moment of love
1:44
And that sort of story of humanity and the desperation of people who are just trying to escape trying to flee a world that is impossible to live in I think we see it now we see it in Mexico
1:57
we see it all over the world, just immigration, just to pour out of places that are difficult
2:03
And so I think that it resonates in a way that everybody sees it. We all know it, we all understand it, we see it on the news
2:10
And so it resonates in a way that perhaps 20 years ago
2:14
we weren't quite sort of seeing it the same way, but it's such a powerful piece in that way
2:18
Yeah, I think there's a lot of history. There's many productions, but I think the greatest part about this production
2:24
is how new it is and how the creatives club, Michelle, who is here working with us
2:30
the original creators, and Bob Avionan, also Lawrence Connor, working with us
2:35
are making it our own, which is, I think, is very exciting for all of us
2:41
Yeah, definitely. You know, it's been a while since Miss Ligon has been out on the road. I want to say 20 years has it been
2:46
So I think, you know, it's very timely, and it's a piece that doesn't really go out, lack being irrelevant
2:56
But I think this show will hit a lot of cities really hard, and I think it should
3:01
A lot of people enjoy coming and see the show. Outside, day, stars to dawn
3:09
Your moon still floats on high. The birds away. The stars are away
3:16
and true my hands so shake I reach for you and we meet in the sky
3:23
I'm so excited for people to experience the story and the relevance
3:32
Jamar's can talk more about that than I can but it's so relevant for today
3:37
and the music is epic and you know for kids who haven experienced this show before it going to blow their minds totally And also you know it just so spectacular We have the helicopter
3:51
It's iconic. It's epic. It's amazing. Yeah, you know what I didn't realize was that people, my age, have not seen the show before
3:59
So being able to bring this across the country and having them to come actually see this show
4:04
those of us who did not experience the Vietnam War firsthand, will actually
4:09
get to see what happened. There's a scene in the show where they are at the gates and the helicopter
4:15
comes in. That thing tore me apart the first time I saw it, so I know it will affect people
4:21
like that across the United States. I'm always surprised because we created the show in 89
4:28
I never thought that such a subject like Saigon will be still touring and in front of audiences
4:36
is 30 years after. It seems totally a dream that I could not imagine
4:44
Nobody could imagine that it will be such a worldwide success and that people will still connect with the subject matter
4:55
but at the end of the day, it's a sacrifice of a mother for the child
5:00
and everybody understands it. I don't know how much I've grown through this rehearsal process
5:05
like learning all the history. And one of our main job was to like tell the story
5:12
I mean, like really what happened. We tried to be real as possible
5:17
And I'm, yeah, I'm waiting forward to, I'm looking forward to tell this powerful story
5:23
so that they will learn and grow. Not to mention the fact that this cast is brilliant
5:29
Oh my God. Yeah. They are so amazing I was blown away the first day that we got here I was like oh my God what am I doing here This is so crazy They so good And we become an instant family
5:44
So I really, I really love this cast. They're really, really amazing
5:47
Every single person. Every single person is brilliant. My mom is actually from Vietnam
5:53
and her story is very similar to Kim's. She was 17. She met an American GI, and I have three half-brothers from that story
6:02
And they are also refugees, and they got to America in 1984
6:06
And so it is very, like, so it's my mom's story. What's it going to be like when your mom is in the audience for the first time
6:17
My mom's going to be crying and unable to speak. And she's just going to feel so honored also
6:24
And I hope so many Vietnamese American families or Vietnamese, you know, refugees or immigrants come and see the show
6:31
and I hope that they feel like we've given a sense of truth of their story
6:37
even if it's hard to watch at some points because it was really difficult
6:42
But I hope it gives them a sense of like, wow, we are represented
6:46
You will be who you want to be. You can choose whatever ever grant
6:58
As long as you can have a grant. your chance. I swear I'd give my life for you
7:11
No one can stop what I must do. I swear I'd give my life for you
